Clinical Pilates
Clinical pilates is beneficial for improving quality and control of movement. It builds strength and flexibility. It can be adapted for your stage of injury, mobility and strength.
Clinical Pilates differs from classical pilates in that It is an individualized approach, tailored to an individuals specific injury and goals. This can be used in acute injury rehabilitation or as an aspect of strengthening and movement for higher level function and performance.
It is led by a physiotherapist who has undertaken additional training in clinical pilates and combines principles of traditional pilates with current research in rehabilitation. Jamee was first introduced to pilates in 2010 and completed a clinical pilates course with DMA. Since then she has taught pilates in London and New Zealand continuing to develop her skills. Irene completed training with APPI in 2014 and taught pilates classes in Ireland and New Zealand and continues to use this a tool in rehabilitation. We are both trained to cater for pregnant and postnatal people in a 1:1 or class setting.
What to expect:
Initial Assessment
It is recommended to have an initial assessment to identify current or previous injuries and what your goals are. This assessment will include assessment of breathing pattern, movement patterns, posture, flexibility and strength testing with the Kinvent Dynamometry system. We then build a plan with you to prioritise achieving your goals.
Reassessment:
We will re-assess progress toward goals at agreed time points to identify any changes required to your plan.
Pilates Equipment used:
The Balance Body Allegro 2 reformer
The Balance Body Wunda Chair
The Balance Body Tower
A variety of small props and weights
Service options:
1:1 Pilates
1:1 pilates is great for anyone that is new to pilates or exercise, has an acute injury or multiple injuries, or a specific condition that they are managing. A 1:1 setting allows direct feedback on movements and techniques so as to progress quicker and give you the confidence that you are moving well.
Pilates class
We offer classes limited to three participants which are tailored to their needs. An experienced physiotherapist will lead you through specific exercises on pilates equipment allowing you to strengthen and lengthen in a way that serves you.
